Electrolytic manganese flakes are mainly applied for steel alloying and as an additive in manganese-required alloys. They can also be combined with metals like aluminum, antimony, or copper to create highly ferromagnetic materials. These flakes look similar to iron, taking irregular, thin flake shapes. They are hard and brittle, with one shiny side and one rough side, and their colors vary from silvery white to brown. To produce them, manganese carbonate ore powder is used as the raw material; the raw material is leached with sulfuric acid to make a manganese sulfate solution, and then the flakes are manufactured via an electrolytic process.
