Atomic number 14, relative atomic mass 28.09, has two allotropes, amorphous silicon and crystalline silicon, and belongs to the metalloid element of group IVA on the periodic table of elements.     The origin of the name of silicon in silicon molybdenum rods comes from the Latin words silex and silicis, which means flint (flint). In the early Republic of China, scholars originally translated this element as "silicon" and pronounced it as "xi (the word "gui" can indeed be pronounced as "xi", like the word "qi") (also, the word "silicon" is originally a variant of the word "牉", Read huo). In 1787, Lavoisier first discovered the presence of silicon in rocks. However, in 1800, David mistook it for a chemical compound. In 1811, Gay-Lussac and Thénard may have prepared impure amorphous silicon by mixing and heating elemental potassium and silicon tetrafluoride. Silicon was first discovered as an element by Berzelius in 1823, and amorphous silicon was refined a year later, using much the same method used by Gay-Lussac. He then used repeated cleaning methods to purify the elemental silicon.
