However, it is important to know that the rate of chromium reduction in the ferrochromium smelting method is low because the silica chromium ore contains 30-35% Cr2O3 and 10-20% Si02. At smelting temperatures, silicon oxide forms a sticky film on the surface of the chromium ore blocks, which prevents the interaction of the chromium oxide with the carbon reducing agent and gaseous carbon monoxide. The silica flux enhances the silica oxide effect of the chromium ore by hindering the contact of the ore chromium spinel with the carbon reducing agent and gaseous CO. Due to the passivation reaction of chromium reduction from chromium spinel, it is not reduced in the upper layers of the furnace bath. Solid ore particles are supplied to the bottom layer in considerable quantities and are entrained by the liquid slag flowing out of the furnace.

     Ferrochrome is a kind of ferroalloy which mainly composed by Iron and Chrome,It's one of the basic alloying constituent for steel industry.It can markedly improve the steel's oxidation resistance and corrosion resistance .Add the ferro chrome when steel making can produce various special steels with high intensity,resistance to corrosion,wear-resisting,high temperature resistance and oxidation resistance like stainless steel,acid-resisting steel,heat resistant steel,ball bearing steel,spring,steel and tool steel and etc.Ferrochrome contains 55%-75% chrome according to different carbon content can be divided into High-carbon (4%-10%C), Middle- Carbon (0.5%-4%C), Low-Carbon (0.15-0.5%C).Micro-Carbon (<0.15%C).High carbon ferrochrome can also be called carbon ferrochrome, middle carbon, low carbon and micro carbon can also be called refined ferrochrome.
