Nitrited Low Carbon Ferro Chrome

Ferrochromium is an iron alloy composed of chromium and iron. It is an important alloy additive for steelmaking. Ferrochromium is divided into high carbon ferrochrome (carbon content 4~8%), medium carbon ferrochrome (carbon content 0.5~4%), low carbon ferrochrome (carbon content 0.15~0.50%) according to different carbon content. Micro-carbon ferrochromium (carbon content is 0.06%), ultra-micro carbon ferrochromium (carbon content is less than 0.03%), silicon-chromium alloy, nitride ferrochromium, etc.

Product Introduction
What Is Low Carbon Ferro Chrome Used For?

What is ferro chrome used for?

Both low and medium-carbon ferrochrome is primarily used for making corrosion-resistant steel, acid-resistant steel, and heat-resistant steel. Whereas, high carbon ferrochrome has a typical chromium content between 60-70% and a carbon content of 4-6%.

What Are The Raw Materials For Medium Carbon Ferrochrome?

The raw materials like chrome ore, coke and fluxes are selected to obtain desired grade in the output as per the requirement of the customer. All the incoming raw materials are analysed for quality before feeding into the furnace.

Medium Carbon Ferro Chrome

Medium Carbon Ferrochrome

Ferrochromium is made from metallurgical grade chromium ore and can be divided into three categories based on the amount of carbon in the alloy:

The three types of ferrochrome alloys are:

High carbon (HC) ferrochromium (carbon content between 4% and 9%)
Low and medium carbon (LC & MC) ferrochrome (LC less than 0.5% carbon, MC between 0.5% and 4% carbon)
       Ferrosilicon chromium (FeSiCr)

What Are The Main Applications Of Industrial Ferrochrome?

Steel production, especially stainless steel with a chromium content of 10% to 20%, is the largest consumer of high-carbon ferrochrome. More than 80% of the world's ferrochrome is used to produce stainless steel.

Most of the ferrochrome produced is charge chromium, with low chromium content. Most commonly used in stainless steel, mainly produced in South Africa.

Low- and medium-carbon ferrochromium is used in the manufacture of specialty steels. Low-carbon ferrochrome can be used to produce high-temperature alloys.

Related Knowledge About Ferrochromium

Charge chromium and high carbon ferrochrome:
The carbon content of both charge chromium and high carbon ferrochromium (HC FeCr) ranges from 4% to 9%, with the main difference between the two being the chromium and silicon content.

Chromium charge typically contains 45-56% chromium and 3-7% silicon, while high carbon ferrochrome typically contains 60-70% chromium and 1-3% silicon.

HC FeCr can be produced by the blast furnace method, electric furnace method, or plasma furnace method.

The most common modern production method of high-chromium ferrochrome is smelting in submerged arc furnaces.

The basic principle of electric furnace smelting HC FeCr is to use carbon to reduce chromium and iron oxides.
