Ferrosilicon Granules for Metallurgical Addition
Quick Answer: Ferrosilicon granules are small-size FeSi alloy particles used where controlled weighing, feeding or rapid addition is required. Available grades on this page include FeSi70, FeSi72 and FeSi75, with particle-size options from 0.2–1 mm to 8–15 mm.
For purchasing, confirm the required FeSi grade, silicon content, impurity limits, particle-size range, quantity and packing before quotation.
Ferrosilicon is an iron-silicon ferroalloy used as a silicon-bearing material in steelmaking, foundry production and other metallurgical processes.
Compared with large FeSi lumps, smaller granules provide a more controlled particle-size range and can be easier to weigh or feed in processes that require smaller additions. The correct size should be selected according to your charging method, treatment process and required dissolution behavior.
For high-silicon FeSi product information, you can also review our high-purity ferrosilicon product page.
Ferrosilicon Granule Specifications
The following grades and chemical limits are based on the current product specification. Final batch chemistry should be confirmed according to the agreed purchase specification and inspection results.
| Grade | Si ≥ | Al ≤ | P ≤ | S ≤ | C ≤ | Cr ≤ |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| FeSi75 | 75% | 1.5% | 0.04% | 0.02% | 0.2% | 0.5% |
| FeSi72 | 72% | 2.0% | 0.04% | 0.02% | 0.2% | 0.5% |
| FeSi70 | 70% | 2.0% | 0.04% | 0.02% | 0.2% | 0.5% |
Specification note: These values follow the current product-page reference. If your production requires tighter impurity limits, send the required maximum values with your inquiry.
Ferrosilicon Granule Size Options
Particle size is one of the main characteristics that distinguishes this product from standard large ferrosilicon lumps. The current size ranges include:
| Particle Size | Selection Consideration |
|---|---|
| 0.2–1 mm | Fine granular material for processes requiring small and controlled additions |
| 1–3 mm | Small granules for controlled feeding and blending applications |
| 3–8 mm | Medium granules for metallurgical addition and handling |
| 8–15 mm | Larger granules where a coarser feed size is preferred |
| Customized Size | Can be discussed according to process and order requirements |
When particle-size consistency is important, specify the required range together with acceptable fines or oversize limits before production.
How to Choose FeSi70, FeSi72 or FeSi75
The main difference between FeSi70, FeSi72 and FeSi75 is the silicon concentration. A higher-Si grade supplies more silicon per kilogram of alloy, so the required alloy addition can change even when the target silicon input is the same.
| Grade | Main Selection Point |
|---|---|
| FeSi75 | Higher silicon concentration within this product range |
| FeSi72 | Intermediate silicon grade for metallurgical silicon addition |
| FeSi70 | Lower silicon concentration within this product range |
The grade should not be selected from silicon content alone. Actual recovery, impurity limits, particle size, addition method and total cost should also be considered.
Estimating Ferrosilicon Addition
For processes where ferrosilicon is used to increase silicon content, a basic mass-balance estimate can be used before final production adjustment.
Required FeSi Mass ≈ Required Recovered Si ÷ (Actual Si Fraction × Estimated Si Recovery)
Use the actual batch silicon content and your own production recovery when calculating the final addition.
Because FeSi75 contains more silicon per kilogram than FeSi70 or FeSi72, a smaller alloy mass may be required for the same theoretical silicon input. Actual consumption depends on your process conditions.
Applications of Ferrosilicon Granules
Ferrosilicon granules are suitable where a small and controlled FeSi particle size is preferred. Typical metallurgical uses include:
- Silicon addition in steelmaking
- Deoxidation applications
- Cast iron chemistry adjustment
- Foundry treatment where controlled FeSi particle size is required
- Blending with other metallurgical materials
For foundry applications involving smaller ferrosilicon particles, see our ferrosilicon particle and inoculant guide .
Why Ferrosilicon Particle Size Matters
The particle-size range affects weighing, handling, feeding and dissolution behavior. Fine and coarse ferrosilicon should therefore not automatically be treated as equivalent products.
Very fine material can create more dust and handling loss, while excessively large particles may not suit a process designed for small controlled additions. The correct range depends on the charging equipment and metallurgical process.
For repeat orders, buyers should also confirm fines and oversize control so the delivered size distribution remains consistent from batch to batch.
Ferrosilicon Packing
Packing can be selected according to the product size, order quantity and handling requirements.
| Standard Bulk Packing | 1000 kg big bag |
| Small Packing | Can be discussed according to order requirements |
| Customized Packing | Available according to agreed purchasing requirements |
Ferrosilicon Granule Quality Control
For small-size ferrosilicon, both chemistry and particle-size distribution should be checked before shipment.
- Actual silicon content
- Agreed impurity limits
- Particle-size distribution
- Fines and oversize when specified
- Batch consistency
- Packing condition
- Batch inspection or COA confirmation

Request a QuoteFerrosilicon Granules FAQ
Q: What sizes of ferrosilicon granules are available?
A: Current particle-size options include 0.2–1 mm, 1–3 mm, 3–8 mm and 8–15 mm. Other size ranges can be discussed according to the application.
Q: What grades of ferrosilicon granules can you supply?
A: The current product range includes FeSi70, FeSi72 and FeSi75. Final chemistry should be confirmed according to the agreed purchase specification.
Q: What is the difference between ferrosilicon granules and lumps?
A: The main difference is particle size. Granules provide a smaller and more controlled size range, while standard lumps are larger. The suitable form depends on the feeding, charging and treatment process.
Q: Why should fines content be controlled?
A: Excess fines can affect handling, dust generation and the consistency of the delivered particle-size distribution. A fines limit can be included in the purchase specification when required.
Q: Is FeSi75 always better than FeSi72 or FeSi70?
A: No. FeSi75 contains more silicon per kilogram, but the correct grade depends on the target chemistry, recovery, impurity limits, particle size and process requirements.
Q: Can the particle size be customized?
A: Yes. Customized particle-size ranges can be discussed according to your process and order requirements. Please include the required size range and fines limit with your inquiry.
Q: What information should I send for a quotation?
A: Send the required FeSi grade, impurity limits, particle-size range, fines requirement, quantity, packing, application, Incoterm and destination port.
