FeV50 and FeV80 are both used to add vanadium into steel, but they are not selected for the same purchasing reason.

If a steel mill only needs moderate vanadium addition, FeV50 may be enough. If the plant needs tighter alloy control or wants to reduce total addition volume, FeV80 is usually easier to manage.

The right choice depends on the steel grade, target vanadium content, alloy recovery rate and purchasing budget. A useful quotation should confirm the steelmaking route, not only the ferro vanadium price.

In steelmaking, ferrovanadium 80 is usually added during ladle treatment or alloy adjustment. It is commonly used in high-strength low-alloy steel, rebar, structural steel, spring steel and tool steel.

A common steel mill situation is simple: the final vanadium target is fixed, but the plant wants better yield strength without adding too much alloy weight into the ladle. FeV80 helps because the vanadium content is higher, so the total addition amount is lower than FeV50.

For rebar and structural steel production, vanadium supports grain refinement and strength improvement. For tool steel and wear-resistant grades, it helps improve hardness and wear performance. FeV80 is not chosen only because it has a higher V percentage. It is chosen when the plant needs cleaner, more direct vanadium input in the final alloying step.

If ferrovanadium contains too much fine powder, the material may create handling loss, dust and uneven feeding. If the lumps are too large, dissolution may slow down, especially when the ladle temperature is already dropping.

For most steelmaking customers, 10–50mm is a practical size. It is easier to charge, easier to weigh and suitable for regular ladle addition. For some plants using bulk alloy systems, 10–100mm can also be supplied.
