Classification by Carbon Content
Ferromanganese is divided into 3 categories according to its carbon content:
Low carbon category: carbon no more than 0.7 percent. Medium carbon type: carbon from about 0.7 percent to 2.0 percent. High carbon type: carbon from about 2.0 percent to 8.0 percent.
Charge Calculation Procedure
To calculate ingredients, generally follow the following procedures and requirements:
(1) Raw materials and product specifications: Determine the production grade and composition of medium and low carbon ferromanganese; and the raw material composition, including silicon-manganese alloy, manganese ore, lime, and other raw materials entering the furnace.
(2) Parameter selection: Determination of the element distribution coefficient, including alloy entry, slag entry, and volatilization loss; the utilization rate of silicon in the silicon-manganese alloy, including the amount oxidized by air or high-priced oxide decomposed oxygen, the amount of silicon entering the alloy, and the quantity of the reduction reaction; and the selection and determination of slag alkalinity.
(3) Calculation: Based on 100 kg of manganese ore, the high-priced oxide of manganese is thermally decomposed into Mn3O4 and reduced by silicon; likewise, Fe2O3 is reduced by silicon. The calculation includes the proportion of manganese ore and the composition of the mixed manganese ore; the amount of silicon-manganese alloy required; the amount of lime required; the material batch composition (kg); the alloy weight and composition; and the slag weight and composition.
