pure niobium alloy bar
Niobium has low strength and hardness but high toughness, and has good cold plasticity. During the cutting process, as the temperature rises, gases such as oxygen and nitrogen are absorbed, which has a significant impact on the performance of niobium. Therefore, the main problem in cutting niobium is to prevent the cutting temperature from being too high, which requires the use of sharp tools, lower cutting speeds, and pouring a large amount of cutting fluid.

Tool materials for cutting niobium can use high-speed steel or carbide such as YG8 and YW2, but it is not suitable to use niobium-containing carbide as the tool material. When using carbide tools, the geometric parameters of the tools can be selected: γO=20o~25o, αO=10o~15o, Κr=45o, Κ′r=15o, γO1=-5o~0o, bγ=0.1~0.3mm, rε=0.2~0.5mm. Chip groove radius=4~6mm. During finishing, the rake angle and main deflection angle should be appropriately increased, and the tool tip arc radius should be reduced.

The selection of cutting amount is as follows: when roughing, νc=45~80m/min, ap=5~8mm, f=0.3~0.5 mm/r; when semi-finishing, νc=60~100m/min, ap≤2mm, f= 0.2~0.4mm/r; during finishing, νc=70~120m/min, ap=0.1~0.5mm, f=0.1~0.15 mm/r. When using high-speed steel cutting tools, νc≤30m/min, f≤0.3mm/r.
