Lime is not added to the charge during smelting. The equipment and operation are similar to ferrosilicon, and it is used when the reducing agent is insufficient. Using acidic slag operation under the conditions, the process of smelting high-carbon ferrochrome by solvent-free method is continuous. The charge is continuously added into the furnace along with the melting process. The unit power consumption of the product is very low, and it is easy to produce low-silicon high-carbon ferrochrome. , this is because most of the silicon is enriched in the slag.

     The solvent-less method uses the so-called "weakly acidic slag method" between the solvent method and the solvent-free method. This method is to add an appropriate amount of lime or limestone to the furnace charge to control the ratio of the slag basicity m (CaO)/m (SiO2) or m (CaO+MgO)/m (SiO20) between 0.6-0.8. It can not only improve the recovery rate of chromium, but also obtain slag containing 25%~30% chromium and an appropriate amount of CaO.
