Ferro vanadium is primarily composed of iron and vanadium, with the vanadium content typically ranging from 35% to 85%. The remainder is iron and minor impurities (such as silicon, carbon, and phosphorus). Common classifications are based on vanadium content, such as FeV50 (containing approximately 50% vanadium) and FeV80 (containing approximately 80% vanadium). Different specifications cater to diverse industrial needs.
How to produce ferro vanadium?
There are two main core processes for producing ferro vanadium: the electro-aluminothermic method and the silicon-thermal method. The two processes have different focuses on raw materials, processes, and applicable scenarios, as follows:
1.Aluminum thermal power
Mainstream Process, Suitable for High-Purity Ferrovanadium Production
This is the most commonly used process for industrially producing ferrovanadium (especially high-vanadium FeV80). Its core principle is to reduce and alloy vanadium using electrical heating and aluminum as a reducing agent.
2.Silicon thermal process
This process uses silicon (ferrosilicon) as a reducing agent and initiates the reaction through external heating. It is mainly used to produce ferrovanadium with medium and low vanadium content (such as FeV50).

Ferro vanadium is a key ferroalloy. Its core purpose is to optimize material properties through alloying. It is mainly used in three major areas, covering industrial production and high-end manufacturing:
Steel industry (core application): As a steel additive, it can improve strength, wear resistance and corrosion resistance. For example, high-strength rebar for construction, wear-resistant parts for engineering machinery (excavator bucket teeth), and oil pipeline steel can increase the strength of the steel by 20%-30% after adding ferrovanadium, while maintaining toughness and extending service life.
