Chemical properties
Ferrosilicon is an iron alloy composed of silicon and iron. It is made of coke, steel scraps, quartz (or silica) and smelted in an electric furnace.
Different types of ferrosilicon have specific chemical composition contents. For example, the content of low-silicon ferrosilicon powder products is Si: 15-20%, Fe: 75-80%, S: less than 0.02%, C: less than 0.2%, P: less than 0.4%, Al₂O₃: less than 1.5%, MgO: less than 1.5%.

Physical properties
Common states include natural blocks with a thickness of about 100mm. The cross-section of the appearance is grayish white with pores. The appearance of natural block ferrosilicon needs to be checked for cracks, whether it fades by hand, and whether the sound is crisp when knocked.
Ferrosilicon is afraid of moisture. Natural blocks are easy to pulverize when exposed to water, and the silicon content decreases accordingly.
